Prince of Rome

With the Cathedral behind him, he stands in disarray; he is bent; he is shaken; he is scarred; he is broken, but he will survive.  The Church has always survived.

With the recent scandals involving Catholic Priests and young church members, exacerbated by the denial and cover-up attempts by the superiors of those offending priests, it has not been a good time to be Catholic Clergy.

Perhaps the beauty of the colors and the swirl of the design indicate that things are getting better and will correct themselves eventually.  The Prince of the Church pictured is not one of the offenders, which is true of the vast majority of Ordained Clergy; his look is one of hurt not fear.  His will be the hardest “row to hoe” and for the rest of his life he will feel that people watching him and are suspicious of him.

The winds of change may be in the making as those waiting to assume power consider the causes and alternatives of the problem.  May God have mercy on our souls.
