The Fundamentalist

Some paintings are just not made to hang over the sofa. The Fundamentalist certainly falls into that category. Again, this may be one of those pictures that should go untitled and unexplained. When I’ve asked friends what a certain painting says to them they usually tell me and then ask what I had in mind.

Very often a painter begins to paint and has very little if anything in mind. It’s true. That really happens.

The fundamentalist, the one in the beard, the only one who has eyes to see clearly could be a younger more slender me. I’m sure my message is that all fundamentalists feel they are the only ones with vision and that theirs is the only perspective. Then someone asks, “But what if it’s true and the fundamentalists is the only one who does see clearly. Are we all doomed because we don’t follow that person?” Bob Dylan said it best “...The answer, my friend, is blowing in the wind...”
